Our Service Men & Women From The Area Of

VFW POST 9851 Hendersonville, TN

Operation SpearheadOperation Spearhead is a VFW POST 9851 program which will involve local community and businesses in the Hendersonville, TN. Area to recognize and support all of the men and women from our area who are serving on active duty / Reserves / Guard in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. A special Active Duty Roster is prominently displayed in the VFW POST showing the names of all military personnel from our area, as well as several walls downstairs to complement the Wall Of Honor. We have also put their pictures and bios in the local paper (The Star News) as a VFW POST 9851 Soldier Spotlight of the Week. We are PROUD of our soldiers and do whatever we can to showcase them.

The motto of the VFW is: "Honoring the Dead by Serving the Living". With so many of our service men and women who volunteered to serve in the time of war, Operation Spearhead will stress "Serving the Living". There are no membership dues or money collected to be a part of Spearhead. On the contrary, we recognize that when a soldier is deployed, the (whole) family is deployed so we support not only our soldiers but their families if they need help or if they just have military questions or issues.

VFW POST 9851, with the help from other Spearhead members, the VFW Booster Club, local businesses, civic clubs, Chamber of Commerce, the City of Hendersonville and private citizens collect donations, gifts, toiletries, etc. which are used for packages from home as well as to support any in-need family members who are having a rough time, with the programs like the POST FOOD BANK. All contributions are acknowledged and service members receiving these packages will know where they came from. When you become a part of our Spearhead family, you will receive an Operation Spearhead Card which permits access to the POST and to our POST parties, functions and fundraiser's. You'll also get email updates about News and Events going on at the POST, collections being taken up for things to send to our soldiers and other pertinent news.

Although Operation Spearhead was initiated at a time of War on Terrorism, it is the intent Hendersonville VFW POST 9851 to continue to recognize our active duty troops forever and we need the support of our community to see that we continue to receive the names of our citizens who volunteer for active duty. Our goal is to identify who these individuals are. If you have a relative now serving someplace in the world (they do not need to be deployed), we are asking you please provide the following:

Besides Sending Our Soldiers Food and Necessities that they may need, Spearhead members and the Boosters have also taken up many other collections at the request of our soldiers to aid in their humanitarian projects. We have helped units refurbish schools in Iraq by sending many boxes of school supplies, sent the Iraqi kids shoes, socks and small toys and sent a large collection of toiletries to an orphanage that one of our soldiers was stationed near in Kosovo. We have sent countless boxes to help our soldiers help the locals where they are deployed.

As one of our guys aptly put it:

These little items (like rubber balls and pens) allow the soldiers to take those few seconds and be human. When we hand out these seemingly worthless trinkets to the kids and their families, it influences people's minds. "Hey, the Americans might not be bad after all".
